Hip Hop Dance Classes in Tulsa, OK
Hip hop is more than choreography. It is a culture, a history, and one of the most expressive styles a dancer can learn. At Elite Dance of Tulsa, our hip hop classes are taught with respect for the roots of the form and with instructors who have danced and choreographed at the professional level.
What Makes Our Hip Hop Program Different
A lot of dance studios teach hip hop. Fewer teach it with the foundational knowledge that the style deserves. Hip hop was born in the Bronx in the early 1970s out of breaking, popping, locking, and the broader culture of DJing, MCing, and graffiti. Modern commercial hip hop has evolved into a polished, high-production style — but the best hip hop dancers always carry the foundations with them.
Our hip hop instruction at our South Tulsa studio is led by Chris "ABstrakt" Nored, who graduated from Oral Roberts University with training in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Hip Hop. Chris has appeared as a principal dancer in Hanson's music videos for MTV and VH1, choreographed for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock, and trained under industry choreographers including Twitch, Parris Goebel, and Keone and Mari Madrid. That kind of real-world experience shapes what our students learn and how they learn it.

Age Groups and Class Levels
Mini Hip Hop (Ages 5–7)
Our youngest hip hop classes focus on age-appropriate music, fun choreography, and building rhythm and confidence. The energy is high and the dancers love it.
Foundational Hip Hop (Ages 8–11)
Dancers start to learn real hip hop vocabulary and longer choreography combinations. The focus is on developing groove, attack, and the cleanness that makes hip hop look effortless.
Intermediate and Advanced Hip Hop (Ages 12+)
Older dancers tackle complex choreography, freestyle, and pieces that push into commercial industry-level work. Advanced students perform hip hop routines on our competition team.
Hip Hop on Our Competition Team
Hip hop is one of the most exciting categories at competition. Our Elite Company performs hip hop routines that bring the crowd to its feet — but the technique and discipline behind those routines come from year-round, serious training. Competitive hip hop dancers are expected to take supporting classes in jazz and contemporary to round out their movement vocabulary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is hip hop a good first dance class for my child?
It can be. Hip hop is approachable, fun, and a great way for kids to fall in love with movement. Many of our Tulsa dancers start in hip hop and add other styles as they grow.
What does my dancer wear to a hip hop class?
Comfortable athletic clothing — sweatpants, joggers, athletic tops — and clean indoor sneakers reserved for studio use. We share specifics at enrollment.
My child loves hip hop but isn't sure about other styles. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Recreational dancers are welcome to take just hip hop. If they eventually want to compete or pursue dance more seriously, we'll guide the conversation about adding supporting styles when the time is right.
